Drama 2017-2018
This year like every other year I partook in the schools drama society. The play we did this year was The Importance Of Being Ernest by Oscar Wild. This was my favourite production out of all the years I have been doing drama. The language was much more difficult and I had about two hundred more lines to learn then in years before but I loved every second of it and is one of if not the highlight of my TY year.
First aid
I loved this activity, we learned great life skills and real qualifications. I felt the instructors had a brilliant teaching method and I feel more then confident that I could preform CPR, be able to use an AED and use other life saving skills on people in need.
I scored a distinction in my final exam which I was really happy about and is a great thing to put down on my CV.
Eagles-flight workshop
22/9/2017
We all walked into the pavilion on the 22nd. We were split into groups and handed out different pieces of paper. The task was like a board game and the aim was to get to a mine, extract gold and get back within a time limit and with the most gold. However it was made for more then a board game. It was made to test our decision making and planning skills in a group for a particular situation and how we dealt with other groups to get the best outcome for us all.
Every group was given different amounts of supplies such as food and petrol. Each day
On the game you would have to use some of these supplies to get to the mine.
However the weather on the map of the board game could change at any point which would cause us to have to use more supplies, so planning our journey was crucial.
We could trade and buy supplies but it seemed to work out better if we planned for a rainy day at the start. We had twenty days to get to the mine and back.
There were three paths on the map. A path taking only five days to get to the mine but having to take a risk that a river might be flooded which would delay the journey.
The second path to the mine took seven days and was mainly risk free other then the fact that there could be an arctic blast which was a form of weather which caused us to have to use many supplies.
The third past was the longest and was eight days but held a mystery ranch.
We had to take two different routes one there one back. There was also the option to stay behind at the starting point for two days but if you did you got extra information about the map.
It ended up that staying behind was the best option if the game and therefore the group that did stay behind were able to stay the longest in the mine and won.
Martial arts
The martial arts course was one of my favourite activities. For three days we worked with a trained martial arts instructor learning how to physically break a person's body when necessary and self defence when not.
We started by going through the basics of where to hit the body, the force to use and when to do it. We then learnt takedown moves and self defence against a knife or gun.
I thought the course was very beneficial and I learned a lot.
IT is not just for geeks
This was a lecture and why we should choose IT as a career choice.
Two representatives from Dell were presenting the speech who told us their story on how they got into the IT department.
They both seemed to be very successful and intelligent and presented a very compelling speech.
They talked about how there was such a great need for IT employees in the economy and therefore a lot of money available to earn.
They gave us a good insight into what it's like working for dell and other IT companies with different working and meetings environments such as working on a swing or having a business meeting while playing pool.
It seemed like a good place to work and certainly made me think about my career options.
